This is a museum quality reproduction of an extremely rare and sort after WWII sweetheart pin. This pin is 1 3/8 inches tall and made in sterling silver as was the original. A mermaid is a legendary aquatic creature with the upper body of a woman and the tail of a fish. Mermaids are sometimes depicted as perilous creatures associated with floods, storms, shipwrecks, and drowning. In other folk traditions they can be benevolent, bestowing boons or falling in love with humans. In 2012 the national U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II group disbanded as only a few veterans were left. This was one of the known sweetheart pins of the WWII era. You will notice the Mermaid is on seaweed that is in the shape of a V for victiory.

"Wonderful Item that is better in person than viewed on line, I'd suggest images that can be enlarged to view. My grand father served as a S1C in squadron (Ron5) aboard PT108, one of the few MTB's to go through the entire war intact only to be purposely destroyed by fire with other PT's on 11 Nov 1945."
