On the eastern coast of Crete, facing the green valley of Mirabello, is all alone at sea, sunken in a deathly silence, the island of Spinalonga. Here, 700 feet away from people, and millions of feet away from his humanity, with its Venetian wall imprisons them around, they are born, live and die chansenikoi of Greece. The Bible, Old Testament, obliged to shout in the streets that they are lepers, not to close other people. Later they wore their clothes with bells, like Harlequin, to hear the sound and removed. Today, they are isolated in this xerovracho fiber filled which was spoken of the Bible "only will they live outside the camp, teleisthe the residence of these.".The film unfolds in this small island, from 1903 to 1958 served as a place of exclusion of people suffering from leprosy. The enforced isolation of patients, residents creates daily frictions and tensions that affect both the authorities and the patients themselves. A couple of doctors struggling to treat leprosy on the island, it ultimately suffers when her husband succumbs to the disease. But the new drug has been invented in the meantime, good health and helps in healing and other patients. The film was considered groundbreaking internationally, both in the conception of the subject and execution, since some of the filming took place on the island of Spinalonga which then functioned as leper colony. This is a historical film, which played an important role in the subsequent history of the island and its inhabitants, having become the reason to close the leper colony of Spinalonga and the few remaining ex-lepers to be transported to hospital infections in Santa Barbara. Give to Lila Kourkoulakou participation in the Venice Film Festival in 1958 as the official Greek participation, and was the first female film world who took part in international film festivals..
