Topic: Hi, anyone else here who collects old sewing machines??
-
Yeah, not the most convient thing to collect!!! They tend to be heavy and take up lots of space, but the common joke is--we could collect old refrigerators instead!!! Or in addition!!! Can't ya just see it, walk into a livingroom lined with old 'friges, and open the friges and there are old sewing machines inside, perfectly stored for quick display in a dust free environment?? LOL

There was a segment on one of thos collecting shows about a man who collected vacuums, so?
Seriously, I have sold a few old sewing machines, so you are not alone!

I'm glad my mom and I aren't the only ones. I'm more controlled than she is about them and only have 5-6. She probably has 20-30 at any given time. She repairs them and either sells them or gives them to people who need a sewing machine. My joke is if she put her name on them almost everyone in KY would have her name in their house.
I like the fridge and machine combo. What a perfect mix.

I only have one old one anymore, but I am always tempted when I see them at sales.

I bought an old Sears-Kenmore sewing machine at a garage sale...I guess it is old. What is the definition of old? It had the owners manual with it but I could not find a date ANYWHERE! The owners manual is from Sears Roebuck and co and Simpsons-Sears Limited. Anyway, it is in very nice wood cabinet. It is electric. I could take a picture of if anyone is interested.
So I guess my answer to your question is--yes, accidentally.
Thanks, Sherri
