Joined IOffer as I am constantly searching for that special coin. Keep options open and check in frequently. So far I have been impressed with all of the items I have purchased here at IOffer. Items have been realistically priced and have arrived quickly and at least in the condition of the pictures or better. That's the way I like it (uh huh, uh huh). We are dealing with some serious stuff here, ain't no lyin about that.
Friend's this is where you make your first million(s). As time goes by and nostalgia spreads there really isn't something nearly as magical as holding a coin you may have spent at the Five and Dime, or the Penny Store. As nostalgia grows, so too does the desire for
these long ago possessed items.
Here's a little story for you:
When I was first introduced to this online madness I had a few knicks and knacks that I could not have cared less for BUT, I thought, maybe someone out in cyberville might cherish. I threw them up for an auction (I know this is not an auction site) and advertised it as "What if this was the book that your grandmother was read at bedtime?" "What if it was your Great Grandmother's?" Here's the trip; I eventually sold that book for peanuts, I think the shipping was more costly than the book. Guess what. The woman who purchased it did so at the wishes of (yes you got it) her grandmother. Her grandmother had a book like that once apon a time. She lent it to a friend never to be seen again...........until the auction closed and the book was mailed.
Wee Grandma opened the book and found several distinctive markers in it. Markers that she had put in herself when she was a wee bonnie lass. She had not seen the book in over 70 YEARS. It was hers. She was it's. I'll never forget the email I got from the grandaughter when they discovered this. This was my favorite personal moment ever on the internet and warmed my heart. I saved that email and still look at it from time to time.
That's my point. As the baby boomers age and nostalgia sweeps across them, these coins and books which we have, and in some cases could care less if we have them mean a portal back to a happier time. A warmer time, a place where their hearts have not been in a very long time.
If nothing else, this is one of the reasons I do this. I love to collect and sell coins. I held one today that was/is so special that I simply stared at it for 2-3 minutes. I buy what I like, sometimes to much. That's when I share when I sell items.
This truly is a rare win-win opportunity. Sellers win because they have wisely kept age old coins from destruction. Buyers win because that very coin COULD HAVE been the one they used to buy show tickets for their girlfriend and now wife of 50 years. Just that small chance is enough to raise spirits to places where they haven't been in decades.
Coins tell a story, a very long collective story. There will never be an end to the nostalgia. This is one of the next waves of collectables. This is the first generation of American Citizens that have some disposable income with nostalgia aplenty. Things were good then. I wish things were as good now as they were then. Dignity and Respect. Kindness and Compassion.
