$350.00The 19th Century Hand Carved Ivory Pipe was appraised by Christies and Sothebys between $300-$500 in 2000....I feel $350 is a very fair price...if you would like more pictures I can take more, there are 2 carved heads and a lot of detail...pipe is in excellent condition for its age....this pipe could be 150 or more years old, so I'm told.

I just thought I would let you know that this appears not to be an ivory pipe, but a pipe carved out of meerschaum, (sea foam primarily found in Turkey).
Very few pipes were ever made out of ivory as the heat generated from smoking severely cracks the ivory. Ivory piprs tend to date to around the 1820's and are a lot more elaborate than this one. These type of meerschaum pipes tend to date to around 1880-1900
Hope this is of help

$350.00You seem to be an expert of pipes...meerschaum it might be, I had a meerschaum pipe but it was never like this one...I've taken close up pictures, tell me what you think...and if you still think its meerschaum or ivory.

Having looked at the extra pictures, I still believe that this is a meerschaum pipe. There is no grain to be seen in the pipe, as would be expected if it was ivory, and the colouring just doesn't appear to be right for ivory.
