EDWARD A BOERNER SPENT OVER 40 YEARS AS A PUBLIC SCHOOL ART TEACHER AND WAS KNOWN AS THE "DEAN OF MILWAUKEE ART TEACHERS"

An article I read in the library from The Milwaukee Sentinel, October 17, 1981, gibes details about his life. It said he died around that date of a heart attack at age 79. He taught in MPS for 42 years and also at UW-Milwaukee and in mnay other seminar and workshop situations in the Midwest.

He was a native of Cedarburg and he received his bacheor's degree from UW-Madison in 1926 and a master of arts from the University of Iowa in 1940.

In 1972, Cardinal Stritch College honored Boerner with an exhibition of work by his former students.

He started his teaching career in 1926 at Kosciuszko Junior High School. Over the years he was head of the arts department at Bay View, Pulaski and Rufus King High Schools until he retired in 1967.

He taught at UWM from 1940-1947. He was past president of the Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors and the Wiscosnin Watercolor Society and was past chairman of the art section of the Wisconsin Education Association.

The article says he was an active memeber of the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Ozauke Art Center, the Wisconsin Art Teachers Association, the Wisconsin Art Council, the Milwaukee Area Teachers of Art and the Rurual Rembrandts of Wautoma. He was also a life member of the Wilderness Society and the Nature Conservancy.

It said watercolors were his prime medium of expression, but he was also recognized as a premier printmaker.
