Item Description
John Ireland escapes from an asylum for the criminally insane, his amnesia fading and memory returning, convinced he did not strangle his sweetheart but determined to find out who did. After his oldest friend, a supposed witness to the crime, betrays him to the police, he's on the run again and falls in with waitress/torch singer Mercedes McCambridge, which is when he sees "the scarf." With its unorthodox casting and philosophical patina, The Scarf is intriguing at every turn, probably the best effort from German expatriate film director E.A. Dupont.
