Overview

This presentation features 95 motion pictures produced between 1898 and 1905 of the Spanish-American War, the subsequent Philippine Revolution and Teddy Roosevelt's early years leading up to the presidency.  The Spanish-American War was the first U.S. war in which the motion picture camera played a role. Most of these films were made by the Edison Manufacturing Company and the American Mutoscope & Biograph Company and consist of actualities filmed in the U.S., Cuba, and the Philippines, showing troops, ships, notable figures, parades, reenactments of battles, other war-time events,  as well as film footage of Theodore Roosevelt's early years.

The motion pictures on this DVD are in chronological order by subtitle.  All film segments are black and white without sound as originally produced.   Please scan the title list of films below for a better understanding of the content on this DVD.
