This is a second pattern silver plated SS officer's visor cap eagle and skull. The back is well marked with the SS and RMZ stamps. This is a private purchase piece as it has much more detail than standard issue eagles issued to officers. This would ha for the officer that wanted only the best insignia on his visor cap. Extremely rare matching set example in perfect condition. The silver has a very dark patina from age. That has not been messed with but would shine bright silver if tarnish were removed. Rare 3 prong design on the eagle, again not cheaply made prongs, but welded to the piece to accept the extra weight. This came from a private estate of a collector of 30 years and former US senator in Ohio. At this auction everything from uniforms to military vehicles were being auctioned off. I purchased a box containing two sets still in old paper, which I tested under black light with no glow. I also got an Iron Cross 2nd class and officer's ring along with a huge Nazi banner in the lot I won. Guaranteed original WW2 manufacture. I just put the red felt behind for esthetic purposes.
