HERE'S SOMETHING YOU DON'T SEE EVERYDAY....A SOUTH AMERICAN, ENGLISH SUBTITLED SHOT-ON-VIDEO WEREWOLF GORE MOVIE!! EVEN BETTER, IT'S A LOT OF LOW-GRADE FUN COURTESY OF WRITER-DIRECTOR RICARDO ISLAS, WHO'S MADE SEVERAL INDIE HORROR FEATURES IN HIS URUGUAY HOMELAND INCLUDING "CROWLEY'S ASHES" & "MALA SANGRE". WHEN A FOOD STAND OWNER IS SAVAGELY MUDERERED BY A WILD ANIMAL, THE LOCAL KIDS GET THE IDEA THAT A WEREWOLF IS TO BLAME AND AWAIT THE NEXT PLENILUNIO (PERIOD OF THE FULL MOON) TO INVESTIGATE. IN THE PROCESS, THEY ENCOUNTER THE TEENAGE CHILDREN OF THE MURDER VICTIM; PLUS THERE'S ADULT ROBERTO (PLAYED BY ISLAS), A CABLE TV PRODUCER WHO ALLOWS HIS STUDIO TO BE THE LOCAL TEEN HANGOUT. NO, THE GUY ISN'T A CREEP...JUST A GOOD-HEARTED BLOKE WITH SIMILAR INTERESTS (INCLUDING INTENTLY READING SOUTH AMERICAN COPIES OF "FANGORIA" MAGAZINE!). LIKE A SOUTH OF THE EQUATOR "HARDY BOYS", THEY BEGIN INVESTIGATING AND EVEN BREAKING BLITHELY INTO A SUSPECT'S HOME. BUT IT'S THE GENUINELY CREEPY FINALE THAT MAKES THIS ALL WORTHWHILE, WHEN THE KILLER TURNS OUT TO BE EVEN MORE EVIL WHILE IN HUMAN FORM, PARTICULARLY WHEN HE TRAPS THE KIDS IN THE SECLUDED STUDIO AND PROMISES TO SLAUGHTER ALL OF THEM COME NIGHTFALL. HE DEFINITELY GETS THE NASTIEST MOMENTS AND THE BEST DIALOGUE. UNFORTUNATELY (OR FORTUNATELY FOR SOME) ALOT OF THE SUSPENSE IS DILUTED BY THE MOVIE'S UNBELIEVEABLY HILARIOUS, HOME-MADE MONSTER COSTUME WHICH RESEMBLES A HUGE, WHITE, TOOTHY STUFFED ANIMAL!! THOUGH A TAD PREDICTABLE, DIRECTOR ISLAS HITS ALL THE NECESSARY BASES WITH A MINIMUM OF ANNOYANCE IN THIS OBSCURE SHOT-ON-VIDEO 90'S GEM, EARNING AN OVERALL "A" FOR EFFORT.
