Originally founded as Illinois China Company in Roodhouse, Illinois in 1917 the company relocated to Lincoln, Illinois in 1919. It was purchased by the Stetson Company of Chicago, Illinois in 1946, and became Stetson China.
In 1962 Stetson China was the largest manufacturer of hand painted dinnerware in the world, replacing Blue Ridge Pottery. It closed its doors in 1965 due to foreign competition and the success of its own Melmac plastic dinnerware line.
