This item is new and it is professionally tested and guaranteed not to be DOA, optional additional warranty is also available by Square Trade.   This part is responsible to illuminate your laptop screen, so if this part goes bad you will have either a dark screen with a very dark and faint image or a flickering screen. Other problems can also lead to a dark screen such as, bad backlight, bad screen, Bad LCD/Inverter Cable, and Bad Motherboard. But the most likely one is the inverter.
