Kean – The Madness of Genius – 1922 Ivan Mosjoukine

Ivan Mosjoukine, Nathalie Lisenko

Ivan Mosjoukine revives his stage performance as legendary 19th Century Actor and bon vivant Edmund Kean (a character not too far removed from himself) in this fascinating adaption of the Alexandre Dumas play about Kean’s twin existance as the darling of the social set and political activist. That along with his unconventional lifestyle and controversial views will ultimately result in a sharp fall from grace.

Volkoff directs with great energy and reminds us that it wasn’t just Abel Gance who used fragmented editing and kinetic camera movement.

Director Alexander Wolkoff
