In 1996, Jesus Heredia made a fan remake of the horror classic Halloween.

"I finally got a chance to see the production of OCTOBER 31st. Jesus Heredia has put together a cable-access tribute to HALLOWEEN. Very entertaining! You guys have put together a well-made production with what you had. I commend you on the mimicking many of the shots from the film. The plot is much the same, with a few minor changes (Michael Myers is now called Michael Mylers). Overall, the production is very entertaining! Keep in mind, this is not a Hollywood studio production, but many of the shots mimic John Carpenter's. Long establishing shots of the town give a very eerie feel. Heredia and his cast have manipulated the Don Post mask to make it look much more like Myers. Heredia is offering the tape from his October 31st homepage for only the cost of shipping. Check the links page, and make sure to grab a copy. It's a must have for any HALLOWEEN fan!"

With “October 31st,” writer-director Jesús D. Heredia emerges as an interesting new voice in horror cinema. The picture, shot on a shoestring budget, manages to capture the spirit of John Carpenter's original “Halloween,” not only in its ability to stir up scares and build tension at a relentless pace, but also by evoking a specific “independent-horror-film-feeling,” which keeps the audience sort of off balance and thereby completely engrossed to see what happens next. The sense that the rules have gone out the window and no one is safe anymore seems to be what Heredia has transplanted the most from Carpenter's film to his, and man is it effective. The build to the film's fierce climax is an absolute crescendo of drama.

The fact that none of the cast are professional actors is surprising, considering the naturalistic tone set in the picture is due in large measure to their performances. In fact, all of the performances are exemplary, particularly the one given by the director's own wife, Taylor Heredia. Her Laura (Laurie?) strikes just the right balance of hesitant curiosity and cautious innocence.

All in all “October 31st” is a worthy retelling of a modern horror classic.

I was totally thrilled to see it!!! Mr. Heredia's remake of " Hal loween " was indeed a mirror image of John Carpenter's Classic. "October 31st" displayed all the eerie atmosphere and entertaining characters as the original did. Now, I've watched your "October 31st" twice  already, and plan to watch it more. I really do love it! I found the characters (especially the "Lunis" and "Laura" actors) very refreshing and entertaining. Your use of wide-shots were great (that's one area that I need to improve on). The lighting was also great! I didn't have to turn up the brightness control for your film. I don't know who's house you used for the "Mylers" house, but it was so damn cool!! Perfect!! The whole thing felt like I was watching "Halloween" -- I meant the atmosphere was very correct. It also showed a strong effort when it came to shooting locations and such. Did anyone bother you when you filmed on the streets? That's always a problem with me. I want to mention this again, your casting of the 3 girls were great. I can definitely see "Laura" (Taylor) come back for the sequel. She's very innocent and sweet, yet STRONG. I also like the way you film someone firing a gun, and have the sound synchronized with the actions. Well done! As a matter of fact, I can see everyone that survived in this film to come back in the sequel (Lunis, Laura, the Deputy, Wayne, the kids, Laura's girlfriend -- and the dead one too). I'm sure that I'll have more to comment and praise when I watch it more. Mr. Heredia should be credited as a true Halloween fan and a very talented filmmaker. Best to you in your future projects!
Yours,
Patrick Jacobs

October 31st was very enjoyable! I loved the original HALLOWEEN, and always felt it was the best horror film ever done. So it was with great anticipation that I popped October 31st. into my vcr. I found the movie a lot of fun to watch. As I watched, I often found myself thinking "How would I have done this scene?", and fantasying about making a remake myself. One thing was seriously missing though - the famous cigarette smoke from Carpenter that floated in front of the camera in one scene. Jesus, how could you have left that out?!! Just kidding. I hope you can get this movie shown on cable, I know a lot of people would like to see this remake.

Mr.Heredia,
Well I thoroughly enjoyed your film. It was just like the original. I am extremely glad that I ordered your movie, it was in no way a bad film. In my opinion, with what you had, and the talent you had, you did an excellent job, and I can't wait to show your film to a few of my friends. I have also dabbed around with making my own films, not as good quality, but there are a good laugh. If you ever make another movie, I would be very interested in seeing it. I applaud to you, you did a splendid job. Thanks again for letting the world observe your movie. 3 Stars in my book.
THANK YOU

I think "October 31st" is a well done movie. It was ghoulishly clever. The acting was terrific and so was the writing/directing. I give this movie, a very two enthusiastic thumbs up! I think this movie is so good that you should make a sequel!
Yours Truly,

Taylor, Who plays Laura Brown in "October 31st")
I really enjoyed your response it meant a lot to me. I am also an actor, I'm 14, yes I'm young, but I've done quite a bit for my age! You have inspired me (truthfully) to do my own public access show, which I'm cleverly titling "October 32nd", it definitely won't be as good as "October 31st", but I love "October 31st", I watch it a lot, and that's why I'm going to make it. Yes, it won't be the REAL "October 32nd", because I think one's already being made or going to, right? Anyway, I'm going to do it for fun, and I hope that you'll be returning for the real "October 32nd"!!!!! Is there going to be one????Good Luck to you and Happy Holidays, Your a beautiful and talented actress, Keep up the good work!

I just received the tape and watch it TWICE. The first time I watched it I was quite entertained. The basic plot, except for a few changes, kept true to the first film, which was good. I was irked at the shortness of it, I thought it would be longer. Afterwards, I went to the theater and saw the big-budget, special effects laddered STARSHIP TROOPERS. Then came home and view OCTOBER 31ST again, and was still thought entertained. Two cons, however, was the use(or non-use,really)of props. I mean, if you can use a knife, why not a gun when Lunis shot Michael in the climax. Also,I think the body count could have been a little higher ;).I do agree with Chris that there could be an original sequel. Now,Jesus, could you please tell me (and the rest of us) about your "She dances" film series.
Thanks,
Jay Dupree

I must say it was pretty cool. I was expecting a really crappy movie but
to my surprise it actually was really good. I wish the ending was a little
different but altogether it was a pretty kick ass movie. So for anyone that reads these reviews BUY THE MOVIE.

"I just got the video today and I have to say it was good! I liked how you kept it the same basic story but changed a few things here and there. I planning on becoming a filmmaker and in college I hope to do my own HALLOWEEN remake. Are there any plans on doing OCTOBER 31st 2?"
Bradon Thomas

"I RECEIVED YOUR COPY OF OCTOBER 31st AND ENJOYED VIEWING IT. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT IDEA AND THOUGHT THE ACTOR'S ) THAT PLAYED THE ROLE OF MICHAEL MYLERS DID A GREAT JOB. THANK YOU."

"I just finished watching "October 31st" and I really must say...amateur films don't get much better than this!!! Heck, slap on the Dimension Films logo and you can throw this sucker right into your local multiplex! Not much was changed from the storyline of the original "Halloween," so that was cool. The performances were excellent! Taylor Burke IS Jamie Lee Curtis! The supporting cast is wonderful too. Tony Hoffman makes a great "Dr. Lunis." I am so happy that I was able to experience this film, Jesus, it was WONDERFUL! (Thanks for the hat, too...I may as well Glue it to my head because I'm never taking it off)!!! The camera work and direction was great...it's too bad we don't live closer together, we could get together and make one AWESOME flick!!! Then there are the two chapters of "She Dances..." They were also astounding and totally original...once again, great acting (and FANTASTIC) editing. These are two totally great movies and I'm looking VERY MUCH forward to "She Dances Forever" this summer (maybe Taylor will have a part in it)? Now that "October 31st" is such a success, Jesus, you should start heavily promoting your "She Dances..." films...they're just great! Well, I can't say it enough, Jesus...great work!!! I look forward to ALL of your future productions!!!"
Robert Lasowski

"Dear Jesus, I would like to say that October 31st is WONDERFULLY entertaining. I jumped in my seat watching it!! The editing and directing is great. You are a true inspiration to film students. I recommend this show to anyone who is a Halloween fan and beyond!!" Sincerely,
Taylor Burke

"Jesus, I received the tape last Thursday, thanks. I really enjoyed it. You changed the story enough to fit your needs, but still kept the overall plot. The shots that mimicked the original were great and the opening dialog between Malorie Mylers and her boyfriend had me laughing. The cast did a good job and I would recommend this to any Halloween fan or anyone who wanted to make a Halloween-like film me)."
Jason Herbe

I just received October 31st and it was, in my opinion the best Independent I've ever seen! It was done very well and I highly recommend it to any Halloween fan! For that matter, any Non-Halloween fan too!Im very glad I ordered it!

I saw your remake of HALLOWEEN, and I must say it was great! I haven't seen a better remake to a great film until I saw this. I want to know, are you going to do a sequel? I myself don't like sequels, but this film has earned the right to original sequel. Something that should come from your mind. Keep up the good work on your page and I hope to hear from you soon.
