According to drinkers lore the origins of the Gesundhiet Beer Stein/Mug was as follows.

After the repeal of the 18th amendment, Morton Pottery (1922-1976) of Morton Illinois produced a line of free premium advertising beer steins/mugs for dozens of breweries nationwide.    These pieces were produced from 1933 to 1943.   Among their customers were the Neustadtl 'Gesundheit' Brewing Company of Stroudsburg Pennsylvania and the Leidinger 'Gesundheit' Brewing Company of Merrill Wisconsin.   The steins/mugs were given away as free promotions-- so the story goes.

A nice addition to one's barware collection
