FILM MUSIC: two GREAT specials!

Track 1: 55 min – (1994)
*Scores by Bernard HERRMANN / Henry MANCINI.
_______________________________________
Boston Pops w/ John Williams, conductor with singers
Monica Mancini - Brian Stokes Mitchell and guests
Martin Scorsese, Julie Andrews, Blake Edwards.
This special highlights some of their musical works for
the many film scores they wrote ; each an integral part
of the drama/comedy/romance/mystery that greatly
impact the whole. Many Alfred Hitchcock soundtracks
by Herrmann include Psycho, North By Northwest, The Birds,
Vertigo and The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Mancini’s film music is memorable also because several had
‘theme’ melodies that became very popular as ‘hits’ with and
without lyrics. Among them are Moon River, Pink Panther
Charade, Le Jazz Hot, Days Of Wine and Roses, Whistling
Away The Dark. Several are performed here with the Pops.

In a special tribute to her father, Monica sings Music On the Way.
John Williams interviews Julie and Blake who reveal their
special rapport with Henry Mancini, his compositions
and his relationship with the musician/performers..

Tract 2: 53 minutes (1993)
*Film Music of JOHN BARRY: ‘Moviola’
Noted British Academy Award winner and composer of
numerous scores that include Midnight Cowboy, Born Free,
Somewhere In Time, Dances With Wolves, Out of Africa ,
Body Heat, Chaplin among others, are described in his own words.
A backdrop of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra he conducts makes
this an extraordinarily personal , soul stirring document. Comments
by Kevin Costner, Jane Seymour and Richard Attenborough
explain how John Barry’s sumptuous music adds character depth
and intensity to their film stories. Sensual, sumptuous and lush.
VERY GOOD SOUND AND PICTURE.
