Synopis
In the 1850's the British Government ruled
Australia with an iron hand, just as it had ruled Colonial
America.  Corrupt police were allowed to keep much of every
fine they imposed, and many of those were bogus charges. 
Before long, the Ballarat goldfields were rife with discontent.
The murder of James Scoble at the Eureka Hotel in
Ballarat by the publican and his associates (who were found to have
no case to answer by the court) just added fuel to the miners'
resentment and outrage.
Eventually, pushed beyond endurance over the tide
of corruption and mistreatment, the miners finally united under a
flag known as the Southern Cross & fought for their rights and
liberties against the British rule of tyranny and oppression.
The December of 1858 would be recorded in history
as the
Eureka Stockade.
