Item Description
This is a reproduction of an ancient Greek tetradrachm of Thasos. After 148 B.C.E. after organization of Macedonia into a Roman province, the output of the great silver mines were sent to the the Thracian mint at Thasos for conversion to coin. The obverse shows the young head of Dionyysos facing right. The reverse shows Hercules standing left holding a club. (Sear 1759) Each coin is stamped 'COPY' on the reverse.
