DISC ! - Track 1
THE BOSTON POPS An American Institution
under baton of ARTHUR FIEDLER..
' JUST CALL ME MAESTRO' a biography.
This two DVD-R set relates in images, words
and music the unique history of the
Boston Pops. Founded in the early 20th
Century, it is the child of the renown
Boston Symphony Orhcestra. In order to
mintain it’s roster of world class musicians
during the off-season, the directors and many of
the musicians, approved the idea of holding
a series of summer concerts, indoors as
well as on the Esplanade on the banks of
the Charles River. The four programs offered
in this 2 DVD set covers all the details and
highlights the tenure of it’s three principal
conductors: Arthur Fiedler, John Williams
and the current Keith Lockhart.
Forever linked to the Pops is the renown
Leroy Anderson. Composer of many short
works commissioned by Fiedler they became
staples in most of thePops concert programs
and widely embraced by the audiences, his
contributions are an indispensable link to
the world wide popularity of the Boston Pops.

DISC TWO - Track 1 - 60 min
A review of the 125 year history of the Boston Pops recaps it's beginnings to the present 2010 and is principally hosted by Keith Lockhart and other devotees. As well, this segment gives an update and credits the many artists from stage, music from opera, Broadway and Hollywood, County and Pop that continue to grace the venerable Symphony Hall in Boston. Among them are clips with Josh Groban, James Taylor, Nancy Wilson, Stan Getz, Bonnie and John Raitt, Chris Botti, Vanessa Williams, Nathan Lane and many others. Also called 'The American Orchestra', this institution appears to extend it's past glories well into the 21st Century, enduring along with their annual July 4th finale- 'The Stars and Stripes Forever'.
Track 2: Lockhart takes the baton of the Pops in 1999

Track 3 - 60 minutes
LEROY ANDERSON
(b. June 29, 1908, Cambridge, Mass., - died May 18, 1975, Woodbury, Conn.) U.S. composer of light orchestral music. He studied composition and German and Scandinavian languages at Harvard; fluent in nine languages, he was an army interpreter in two wars. In 1936 he began a long association with Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Composing short pieces such as "Syncopated Clock," "Sleigh Ride," "Bugler's Holiday," “Blue Tango.” “Waltzing Cat,” “The Typewriter,” and the Irish Suite, they became standards in the repertoire of the 'Pops'. Comments provided by the Pop's lead trumpeter Roger Voisin, conductors Skitch Henderson, Keith Lockhart, John Williams and even Elaine Streich who starred in Anderson's Broadway production 'Goldilocks' richly inform us to the style and diversity of his works. The 3rd movement of the Piano Concerto is another rare highlight. This very informative one hour documentary sheds much light on Anderson's musical career and the new directions he was taking at the time of his passing. Melody reigns!
NB: Leroy Anderson's son Kurt is general manager of WMNR Radio in Monroe CT. Tune in on the net for outstanding classical music programming! He also makes comments in the bio DVD of his father Leroy.
VERY GOOD SOUND AND PICTURE.
