Remarkable, raspberry-red cones on the tips of its branches in spring!

You are bidding on a 6-12 inch tall grafted Picea abies  ' Acrocona '.

Picea abies 'Acrocona'   This fast growing evergreen tree is extremely hardy and wind resistant. Pyramidal growth habit when young, becoming columnar when mature. Bark is red-brown. Leaves are needle-like, dark green, blunt, and four sided, to 1 inch long. Leaves point upward and forward on orange-brown shoots.  'Acrocona' is small, with drooping branches and bears an abundance of cones. Even when young, this delightful conifer develops remarkable, raspberry-red cones on the tips of its branches in spring. The unusual coning habit tends to modify growth rate and shape and to produce a broad, spreading pyramid. Known since 1890, when found in a forest near Uppsala, Sweden, the plant has an apt name, 'Acrocona,' which means "with terminal cones on the ends of the branches."
