OFFERING FOR SALE A EXTREMELY RARE Program

'CHRISTMAS WITH MEL TORME'

on DVD-R
(80 minutes--:sadly missed about 5 minutes of intro.)
featuring the remarkable MEL TORME
with a wide cross-section of guests.
NOTE: It was recorded on December 6 and 7, 1979
and telecast Dec. 1983.
Sons of the Pioneers lead singer Rome Johnson left the
group a few weeks after this performance,
so this was perhaps his final television appearance.
This show is an unforgettable Seasonal program. It has big-band
pop-jazz / vocals, a touch of the old west as well as
traditional carols. In a very informal setting,
Mel wearing a collegiate pull-over sweater has a warm and
convivial get-together with his talented guests which
include :
Les Brown and His Band Of Renown - Maureen McGovern
-George Shearing - Marilyn McKoo - Billy Davis, Jr,
-Rich Little - Roy Rogers and The Sons Of the Pioneers

-
Voices Of Christmas Choir - Richard Basehart.
Interestingly, Mel's young daughter Daisy joins her
dad in singing 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas'.
Many solo, duet and combined performances highlight this
show.
- 'Silver Bells / Sleigh Ride / Jingle Bell' (
McKoo and Davis)
- 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen' (Orch. Choir
arrangement by George Shearing)
- 'The Night Before Christmas' ( revised by Rich
Little and features the 'voices' of Raymond Burr, James
Stewart , Jack Benny, Rod Steiger, Kirk Douglas,
W.C. Fields, James Cagney and others..)

- ' I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm' (Les Brown Orch.)
***********
- Mel and Daisy sing 'Have Yourself A Merry Little
Christmas' then duet Percy Grainger's 'Country Gardens' on a
small keyboard.

- George Shearing on piano plays Percy Grainger’s
carol "Sussex Mummers" , Bach-like fugue on 'Have Yourself
A Merry Little Christmas'and then 'The Christmas Waltz'

- 'Let Is Snow, Let It Snow' and 'O Holy Night
(Maureen McGovern)

- 'Deck The Halls' (Choir and Orch.)

CHRISTMAS IN THE OLD WEST:
featuring ROY ROGERS with the
SONS OF THE PIONEERS:
'Cowboy Christmas' - 'Christmas On the Plains'
(composed by Mel) - Roy sings 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' (in
homage to Gene Autry) - 'Happy Trails'.
-
-'The Christmas Song' (Mel Torme)
- Mel with Jo-Ann Greer and the Voices Of
Christmas pay their repects to American
Christmas composer/songwriter AL BART by
offering 'Caroling, Caroling',
'Some Children See Him',
'We'll Dress This House'.
- Mel with Orch. do a swing arrangement of 'Christmas
Glow Worm' (lyrics by Johnny Mercer).
- Actor RICHARD BASEHART reminds us of the reason for
Christmas and recites 'Prince Of Peace'
and the choir then intones 'Silent Night', 'The First
Nowell' and 'Carol Of the Bells'.

Shortly before Bing Crosby passed away, he and Mel composed
a new song of the season, 'Christmas Was Made for Children'. Mels
gives it a first performance.
This exceptional program ends when Mel and his many
guests join around the piano
to sing 'White Christmas'.
