This is a great find for both it's age, condition and recruitment effort. "For Your Country's Sake Today." This has become a very hard to find WWII recruitment poster. Why, because it is the only poster ever created to feature the female counterparts in the Marines, WAVES, Army and Coast Guard. Steele Savage the illustrator outdid himself, in 1944, by depicting gorgeous young women, looking very dedicated, and featured on a rich blue background. It states at the top:
For Your Country's Sake Today Underneath the female soldiers it reads:
For Your Own Sake Tomorrow At the bottom it states:
GO TO THE NEAREST RECRUITING STATION
OF THE ARMED SERVICE OF YOUR CHOICE It had been folded and stored for years yet looks like new. The colors and picture are vibrant. The shape is terrific with the exception of a bit of yellowing and a slight tear at the fold. This issue will not show when the poster is framed.
The piece measures approximately 17 x 24 inches. These WWII posters are becoming increasingly impossible to find. The current market value of this poster is $395. As one eBay seller stated to me, "these posters were meant for motivational purposes during the war then thrown away." That is why they are becoming more scarce to find.
