THE BODY SNATCHER
Chilling, atmospheric tale of grave robbing in 1832 Edinburgh. Daniell is a doctor regularly buying cadavers deliverd to his back door by menacing cabbie Karloff. When Karloff turns to murder in his quest for bodies-delivering the still-warm body of a young street singer Daniell has seen alive and well only that morning-the frightened doctor realizes he must do something. Daniell murders karloff but is not rid of him, the grave robber's face appearing on the body of an old woman whose body Daniell is stealing, causing the doctor to panic and drive his carriage over a cliff. Lugosi and Karloff have only one scene together, but it's a great one, the last gasp of respectability in lugosi's sad career.
