These magazines were part of our
research material. In response to damage done to material in one of
our retail fronts and archival building by City of Kirksville
workman under the direction of the City Manager in May of 2002 (and
for which we to this day have not been recompensed for) it was
decided, considering the risks and conduct of the city government,
to limit the amount of material being stored and the business
conducted in that city and to sell items stored there which no
longer fit the revised Collection Guidelines (go to our
). We are not in the market to purchase more of these magazines
though we appreciate the number of offers from people

True West
True Stories of the Old West
December 1980
Launched in 1953 by the legendary Joe
“Hosstail” Small in Austin, Texas, Old West
is a popular history publication with a very loyal, core
readership. Thanks to the proliferation of TV Westerns in the late
1950s and early 1960s, the magazine enjoyed broad circulation
(200,000+ newsstand sales). But, as the market and his health
started to decline, Joe Small sold out in 1974 and over the next
decade, the magazine bounced around the Midwest, finally settling
in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Unfortunately, the Oklahoma owners did not
have the capital to stay current with the changing times and the
magazine began to lose significant market share, as newer, slicker
titles like Cowboys & Indians and American Cowboy came into the
marketplace. By mid-1999, the publication, along with three other
titles, was for sale, and the current owners came to the rescue.
Bob Boze Bell, Bob McCubbin and Dave Daiss, formed a limited
partnership and bought the assets and the trademarked names (True
West, Old West, Frontier Times) in October of 1999 and moved the
offices and inventory, to Cave Creek, Arizona.
These Magazines have lots of
important photographs and artwork
Cowboys & Indians; Pioneers; Ranchers
and the Prospectors who searched for gold, all these appeal to a
wide audience of Western enthusiasts, from the people who live
there to those who love or long for the Western lifestyle. The
American West is a place of mythology and grandeur, a rich mixture
of culture, history and spirit that is unmatched in our country's
evolution. The style, the drama and the ideals of the West
— both past and present — are captured in
the pages of each issue of these colourful magazines.

The Saga of three Lieutenants - Death
at Hawikuh
