Jerry Lipman (Paul Reiser) is a successful New York
psychiatrist whose life is turned upside-down when he is diagnosed
with leukemia. Breaking the news to his mother Esther (Olympia
Dukakis), Jerry receives another shock when she tells him that he
was adopted from a young working-class girl named Sheila (Julie
Walters) in Liverpool, England. Determined to come to grips with
