| This is a large and magnificent piece of Royal Hickman work for Royal Haeger, and it is a vase in the shape of a horsehead. This is shown in the 1946 Haeger catalog as the Bust of Pegasus Vase and is marked R-393. (See p. 51 of Dilley's book, Haeger Pottery Through the Years. It is shown as made in glazes 4, 7 and 10.) This one is clearly marked on the bottom with the correct information--"Royal Haeger by Royal Hickman 393 U.S.A." This vase is large and heavy. It is about 11" tall and about 9" from snout to mane. It is narrow--only about3 1/2" wide at the base. The glaze is that Fulper looking purple plum lavender that they did on a few exceptional pieces. This piece has what may be a bruise on a corner of the base. (See first pix at bottom right.) I have looked and picked and tried to figure it out, but from what I can tell the glaze is missing there, although it doesn't look like there is any indentation. There is another odd spot at the top where the tiny piece of the mane is just behind the ear. It is not glazed and does not look like the one on the other side--however, I didn't want to pick at it to determine just what it is. It may be an attempt to repair the little bump???? (See inset photo.) I bought this in a mall in Louisiana, and I bought it for resale, so I don't want to get too attached to it. There is also a loose piece of clay on the INSIDE that looks like it was done in the making. Other than that, I can see a few minor areas of crazing and a few glaze imperfections. There is no other damage--no cracks or significant chunks. This piece is in wonderful condition for its age--from about 1946--and considering that the base is small for the size of the head. I doubt that I will ever find another one like this! Buy with confidence! Cajunc is new to IOffer, but has been buying and selling on ebay for six years. We can ship for $12 insured in the US. I will be pleased to combine shipping for multiple purchases. Click Here to See CajunC Items in Gallery Format!
