Filmed from a very central position in the upper balcony, one rally couldn't hope for a better viewing position that this and the person filming really does have one of the sweetest spots in the whole venue (a few heads in the way on occasion, but hey-ho). Not a bad piece of audience filmed footage by any means, however it's certainly got it's fair share of problems which give it a VG rating as opposed to anything better. Throughout the footage the person recording seems to have a hard time actually keeping the camera steady, which leads to the camera shaking about for the majority of the time - it's not wild flailing about (although it does have it's moments), but it's pretty constant for the 80 minutes. The recording is incomplete and ends abruptly after '7' so we are missing another large chunk of the show, however there are also a few minutes missing during 'Get On Up', and when the camera resumes from this missing part the person recording has the camera pointed at the ceiling for the next few minutes. The picture quality itself is passable and watchable - the colours really lack definition and blend together, however that may be due to age as the footage is now (as I write this) 15 years old. The audio is surprisingly decent for the opening half of the show, but it does deteriorate slightly from 'Eye Wanna Melt With U' onwards - no big deal as a superb audience recording exists on the audio release 'Oh, Ohh, Ohhh'. All that said, and whilst I still find this enjoyable viewing, out of the three circulating Act I NY shows, this would rank in third place. Don't get me wrong, this has it's moments where the camera is steady, the audio is clear and the picture is unobstructed and clear - however they are unfortunately overshadowed by the shaking and the colour blocking for the rest of the running length. Shame, as it's a great show. |
