Based on actual events from a 1948 Georgia
Murder case and made into a TV movie in 1983, this story concerns a
corrupt and ruthless Georgia landbaron, John Wallace,

Andy Griffith
) who murders one of his workers who
delivered moonshine without permission , and thinks he has
gotten away with it. The local lawman, Sheriff Lamar Potts,
(
Johnny Cash
) has other plans, but needs to gather enough
evidence to prove his case against Wallace. Wallace figures
without a body to find there will be no case so he makes his
workers help him get the body out of the old well and burns it
thinking that is the end of the matter; not
counting on a famous Georgia tracker, Elsie Handcock who also put
Wallace's grandfather away. June Carter Cash as the infamous
MayHayle Lancaster who actually lived in Heard County Ga. and was
known as a seer or witch by locals. From the book
