Hardcover, 1976
Fine-Unread In A Dust Jacket

James E(dwin) Gunn is a U. S. author and English instructor.  He was born on July11, 1923 in Kansas City, Missouri of a family steeped in printer's ink; his grandfather was a country editor, his father was a printer, two uncles were pressmen and a third was a proofreader. Graduating from the University of Kansas with a B. S. in Journalism, he served three years in the U. S. Navy in World War II.  After the war, he studied speech and drama at Nortwestern University, obtaining his M. A. in English in 1951.

He began writing in 1947, when he wrote a full-length play, followed by features and scripts for local newspapers and radio.  In 1948 he began writing science fiction and sold 9 out of 10 stories; they were published under the pseudonym "Edwin James."  His M. A. thesis was a critical analysis of science fiction.  He has been an editor for a publisher of paperback reprints, assistant director of Civil Defense in Kansas City, and managing editor of Kansas University Alumni Publications.  He served at University of Kansas as administrator to the Chancellor for University Relations and as instructor in English.  Some of his stories have been dramatised over NBC radio and TV's Desilu Playhouse.
