Introduction of Chinese Liuli
Chinese Liuli combines the glass art craft making
with the spirit of Harmony, Expression, Virtuoso, Zest and
Reflection. It's granted by strong expressive power with an elegant
soul and unpredicable implication. You'll be afraid of its possible
instant evanescence while the dazzling beauty shocks you, because
it melt into every phenomenon but result in everlasting peace.
The history of Chinese liuli can trace back to
about 3000 years ago, Shang Dynasty and Zhou Dynasty. In ancient
time, only imperial family were permitted to use those liuli
artworks, which were strictly made and collected from the royal
studio. Liuli was always reputed as the head of 5 most valued
wares, gold and silver, jade, china, and bronze.
'From fire to water' is the main spirit of the
ancient complex technics. Decades of procedures are needed during
more than 20 days process of the tough handcraft. The rate of
finishing the work is only 70%, as it's really hard to manage every
step and duration. A tiny flaw'll make all the effort waste.
Maintenance&Procedures
Maintenance:
1. Don't hit or scratch. Smooth side don't touch desktop, put liuli
on mat will be better.
2. Must keep in normal temperature. Don't heat it or cool it.
3. Don't touch sulfur or chlorine.
4. Clean with pure water (Tap water lay aside more than 12 hours).
Keep the surface lustrous and clean. Don't spot with greasy blot or
dirty things.
Procedures
Make liuli by 'Pate-de-verre' is a process with
great precision , it is a work of challenge and with great pacient,
which needs talent in design, skill in carving, knowledge of the
character of glass and the control of temperature.
1. Design:
We draw and express our idea on the paper and
make a stereo sample. To get the perfect proportion and beauty, we
draw and carve every line with great accuracy and care.
2. The mold of silica gel:
We spread the silica gel on the surface of the stereo-sample and
fix the external form with plaster to get a mold cut in
intaglio.
3. Wax mold:
We pour the hot wax in the mold of silica gel, and get the mold in
relief after it cool down. For the parts of hollow out or corners
of inversive angle, we deal it carefully, patiently with our clever
hands.
4. Mend the wax mold:
Mend carefully the edges and the small air holes of the wax
mold.
5. Make the plaster mold:
Cover the wax mold with fire-resistant plaster to make a plaster
mold with wax in it. Heat it by vapor and let the wax out to get a
fire-resistant mold in intaglio.
6. Heat it in the forge:
Put the plaster mold and the compound glass in the forge and raise
the temperature slowly to about 1000 Celsius degree. The crystal
glass is softened and flows into the plaster mold to be shaped.
7. Break the plaster mold:
Get it out of the forge after it cools down; break the plaster mold
carefully to get the Semi finished product.
8. Abrade and polish:
Abrade and polish it continually until the luster comes out to show
the sparkling nature of the colored glaze.
