Chad(wick) (Symmes) Oliver is a U.S.  anthropologist and science fiction author. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 30, 1928 , he went to Texas in 1944.  He majored in English and minored in anthropology at the University Of Texas.  He did his Ph. D. work in anthropology at the University Of California.  In the early 1960's he was assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University Of Texas and then went to Kenya on research.

Oliver began reading science fiction at age 15 and became a prolific letter writer to the magazines in the 1940's.  He also produced his own fan magazine.  He is particularly noted for his use of anthropological themes in science fiction.
