This is a pretty china cereal bowl, decorated with decals of pink flowers and a gilt edge. However, the unusual feature of this bowl is the stamped mark on the bottom, which reads: The Great Western Cereal Co. Chicago, USA”. This company was the original manufacturer of Mothers Oats, and was purchased in 1911 by Quaker Oats. Perhaps this bowl was a giveaway to customers or distributors of their cereal in approximately 1910.
The bowl has no chips or cracks, although the surface is crazed as you can see in the photo.
