Bacchus, god of wine, slighted by Diana, goddess of the hunt, grew angry and swore to slay the first mortal he saw. The poor unfortunate soul, happened to be Amethyst, hand-maiden to Diana, on her way to the temple to pray. Bacchus immediately set tigers upon her. Dismayed, Amethyst prayed to Diana for help. Diana responded by transforming her handmaiden into clear crystal stone. Bacchus witnessed the miracle and repented by pouring the juice of the grapes, his precious wine, over Amethyst, thus turning her the beautiful shade of purple so well known in the gem today. It was once thought that Amethyst would prevent drunkenness and give one victory over their worldly passions. This sale is for one medium dark colored, Amethyst. Approximately 7x5mm Pear. Approximately .67cts. Actual photo, but they photographed blue. I tried to adjust the color to be representative of actual color. Photo does NOT show actual size.
