The Standard Rotary sewing machines were manufactured between the 1880's-1900's. The logo "Standard" is painted directly on this machine which dates this at around circa 1900. This is an antique "Standard" Co. Rotary Sewing Machine in very good original condition. Shows some signs of wear (aging and wear from use), where some of the decorative painting on the base is worn in some places, but generally intact. (Please Note: the decorative painting is in very good original condition and much more intact than most Standard machines found this age). It is very clean. Steel sewing wheel on back turns freely and raises and lowers the needle holder. All parts move freely. Appears to be operational. This is for the machine only without cabinet. No manuals or box of attachments. There is no rust or apparent damage. The machine is a solid cast iron (weighs approximately 22 lbs.)with a hard black finish with the signature decorative "Standard" Company logo on both sides of the body, and painted decorative striping with leafing and flowers in gold and green throughout the body and base. Center of base has decorative leafing (some wear from aging) and says "Rotary". Base is 14"L x 7"W x 12"H from floor of base to top. Has metal patent plate on base with Standard Sewing Co., Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. engraved on it, with list of patents and patents pending. Serial number on lever plate is: 583369.
The Standard Sewing Machine Company located in Cleveland, Ohio began manufacturing sewing machines in 1884. Standard was one of the many manufacturers that started up shortly after the dissolution of the sewing machine combination of Singer, Wheeler & Wilson, and Grover & Baker. Their most popular model was the "Standard Rotary", which was manufactured basically unchanged from the 1880's through 1910's. The rotary models were the most popular. The Standard Company was acquired by the Osaan Company around 1929 and is believed to have later been bought out by the Singer Manufacturing Co. in the 1930's.
Own a piece of classical American history. A great collectors piece for display in your home or office, or to use and hold on to and pass down to the next generation. Very hard to find in this kind of original condition. It is in very good original condition, especially considering that it is more than 100 years old!
