Robert Freeman's photography and artistry on the first five Beatles albums were revolutionary. His vision was one of the driving forces behind The Beatles' visual appeal, capturing their humor, originality and innocence in his photographs.

From the beginning Freeman's designs always focused on The Beatles themselves, and he preferred a minimal amount of type on the album covers. In fact, he suggested that no lettering be used on With the Beatles. The idea was too radical for the record label and at the time The Beatles did not have authority over those decisions. That changed with Rubber Soul, which, in graphic terms, Freeman believes is his most successful cover. The cover was approved with the title and a photograph of The Beatles—distorted.

Freeman's five album covers were relatively simple productions, but each made a bold visual statement. His proposal for Revolver would have given their cover art a fresh form and a new dimension, reflecting the evolution and changes which were taking place in The Beatles' music. Freeman's proposal was a photo montage of The Beatles' faces in a circular shape that resembled both an LP and the view down the barrel of a gun.

The artwork for the proposal was torn and pasted by Robert Freeman himself, and it is offered to you today. Each print has been signed and numbered by Robert Freeman.
