While serving at the Marine Corps Headquarters after World War II in Washington, D. C., I had the opportunity to observe this great American Hero as he modeled for the Iwo Jima Statute. It was an honor, Semper Fi

Seldom read or seen, this is " TAPS FOR IRA HAYES" by Maurice Kildare. This is the story of this fabulous hero Marine Private Ira Hayes that has been lost in time. Not many American heroes come off an Indian Reservation -- that is = not many that get the credit they deserve. Remember that flag raising scene on Iwo Jima - well, Hayes was the last man on the left pushing the pole upward. After the publication of the picture, his battle heroics and exploits were forgotten - as were his comrades who survived, or were wounded or killed in action. Hayes was called to Washington with two of the other survivors and placed on tour -- sorta like a circus figure. It was too much for the humble native American and he was allowed to be forgotten, hitting skid row. The story is all here, with the names of his fellow Marines, the battles on the field and in the saloons. See index below.

I hope you appreciate the effort.

THE HERO OF IWO JIMA

This is a loving yet sad tribute. You will just love it. -. Oh, gee, this is great. My wife kids me that after I find something like this, buy it, research it, read it, write about it, take a picture, scan it, pay Ebay an entry fee and commission that I wind up making about 50 cents an hour. But, OH HOW I LOVE THIS OLD MARINE HISTORY as it was published in this old western magazine of many years ago. This issue is in excellent condition, the cover is pristine and in vibrant color.

Buyer pays postage of $3.50 First Class Postage to U. S.$4.50 to Canada, $4.75 Priority Mail, $11.00 International Air Mail. Texans must pay 8 ¼% sales tax. Thanks, Tom
