Better Investment than Bullion:

Contains one full ounce of pure silver, but unlike common silver bullion coins, this rare proof coin is also a valuable collector's item. In addition, the brilliant, uncirculated proof condition adds additional value.
A proof coin is the highest quality possible because they are produced by a limited, specialized minting process.
After a careful inspection and selection process, each burnished, silver blank is struck multiple times on specially polished dies.
This produces a coin with an amazingly detailed cameo relief that appears softly frosted, yet seems to float above a mirror-like background. As soon as it is struck the coin is encapsulated in a clear plastic holder to protect its brilliant finish.
This proof condition combined with the low mintage makes the coin very appealing to collectors.

It is authorized by Title II of Public Law 99-61 (Liberty Coin Act, approved July 9, 1985) and codified as uncirculated version for 31 U.S.C. § 5112 (e)-(h).

Proposed on June 21, 1985, the Senate agreed to McClure's amendment by voice vote on the same day and it was added to H.R. 47; the House approved the amended bill three days later and it was signed into law by President Reagan on July 9, 1985.
