The perfectionist's watch.
Celebrating humanity's supreme achievements and
performances, from man's landing on the moon to the Olympic
competitions, Omega watches have been prized for generations by
those seeking the most precise timepieces in the world. Since its
creation in 1848 by Louis Brandt, Omega has relentlessly pursued
watchmaking perfection, earning worldwide honors and fame.
Worn on the wrists of celebrities Michael Schumacher, Pierce Brosnan, Michael Phelps, Ernie Els and anyone
desiring to wear a watch of excellence and perfection, Omega timepieces rank with Rolex and other of the world's best Swiss
firms as the finest and most expensive timepieces money can buy.
The beautiful wristwatch featured in today's
auction is a fine example of a special vintage Seamaster
Cronometer. Besides its chronometer certification, somewhat unusual
for a Seamaster, what else makes this watch so special is the fact
that it is one of the relatively few vintage automatic (pre-quartz)
Seamaster models to feature both day and date functions.
Here are some of the features that earned this watch its place in history:
- Powered by Omega's first day/date movement
- Highly-efficient, bi-directional self-winding mechanism keeps
the watch powered by the smallest movement by the central rotor in
both directions
- Officially certified as a chronometer by the C.O.S.C., the
highest distinction that can be bestowed upon a watch based on its
accuracy. Only 1 out of every 50,000 watches made at the time
received this special honor.
- Twenty-four (24) rubies (seven more than in most watches)
strategically placed at key friction points minimize the wear to
the internal parts, insuring that with proper care the watch will
run perfectly for generations
- Extra long 50 hour running reserve keeps the watch consistently
running, even when not worn daily
- Quick-set date for easy date selection
- Day of the week calendar
- Attractive and heavy, waterproof, stainless steel case
- 100% original Omega down to the dial, hands, crown, and even
the crystal!
We were fortunate to acquire our Day Date
Seamaster in such pleasing condition. The heavy Omega case is in
excellent condition and maintains a very crisp, unpolished
hypocampus logo. The special silver pearl dial is 100% original
showing only fairly light signs of aging around the periphery. The
high-performance, Omega movement is clean and running well.
We have fully serviced the watch and lubricated
the movement using fine oils, then timed it on a state-of-the-art watch timing device. It continues to run at perfect levels, keeping
time within a few seconds per day. Included with the purchase is a
full one-year international warranty and a timing certificate
attesting to its performance.
Please note: A similar watch resides in the Omega Museum in Switzerland and can be seen in Marco Richon's work,
Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 292.
