Up for bids is this 36 minute long DVD-R copy of an authentic 1966 American Football League promo movie. The Boston Patriots of 1966 had one of their best years of their early history, almost making it to the AFL championship game (the KC Chiefs went to the first Super Bowl that year). The great Mike Holovak’s club was actually better than its record of 8-4-2, losing several times on game-ending plays by the opposition. Second year fullback Jim Nance emerged as a a rough and tumble star, setting a new AFL record of 1,458 yds and scoring 11 touchdowns on his way to becoming the AFL MVP. Veteran quarterback Vito Babe Parilli used Nance to help set up his passing game, and Art Graham, Jim Colclough ,Gino Cappelletti and Jim Whalen were his outstanding receivers . Parilli’s great year kept Heisman trophy winner John Huarte riding the pine most of the season, although you will see him in this film. Cappelletti also did outstanding work as placekicker.

There are some great pre-game warmup sequences with real nice close-ups of Gino and the Babe. The footage was originally shot in 1966 with high quality movie film and most of the highlighted plays are extremely well filmed.

Al Davis had been picked as AFL commissioner starting in January 1966 and he early on advised all American Football League franchises to initiate a season highlight package for viewing in movie theaters or on local TV to help spur season ticket sales . Incidentally, this film was co-sponsored by the HP Hood milk company of Boston. There's a short segment with Mike Holovak very graciously thanking Hood for thier sponsorship. The Patriots beat the defending champion Buffalo Bills twice, and with a victory at Shea Stadium on the last day of the season, could have won the AFL Eastern Championship, however, despite Parilli’s 379 yds passing, the Pats lost to the NY Jets on that final Sunday, 38-28. Emerson Boozer ran wild that day for the Jets.

In this rare 36-minute video you’ll see great AFL action from every game of the Pats' season except the first two. Narrated by the familiar old voice of the Patriots Bob Starr, this vintage COLOR film brings back great memories and the feel of Pats AFL football in Fenway Park!

Besides those players mentioned above, you’ll see many other Patriots of the day: Jon Morris, Ron Hall, Larry Garron, Tom Hennessey, Joe Bellino, Tom Addison, Charley Long, MLB Nick Buoniconti, Chuck Shonta, Tom Neville, Tommy Yewcic, Jim Hunt, Houstine Antwine, Bob Dee, Len St. Jean, Larry Eisenhauer, Don Oakes, Jay Cunningham, Karl Singer, Justin Canale, Lonnie Farmer and rookie fullback Bob Cappadonna. This is a great DVD-R with very comprehensive sequences from 12 of the 14 games of the memorable 1966 Pats season. The disk can be played on any DVD player. Any AFL or old Patriots fan will love this item.
