Item Description
Up for your consideration is this exceedingly rare 1920s Ku Klux Klan cast iron embosser. The Klan was incorporated as a corporation and as such had shares issued and regular board meetings of investors. As such whenever a klavern had obtained a certain status within the Invisible Empire and was deemed honorable enough to act on behalf of the Klan as a national entity it was issued a Charter to do business as and for the Klan as well as a corporate seal / embosser to officially seal their documents and as such officially and legally bind the Klan as a national corporation to the decision, document etc. Like Charters, Embossers such as this one are really one of a kind items as each was designed for a specific Klan klavern and embosses their specific Klavern Number and Name and or Location. If an embosser were damaged it had to be returned before another could be issued as these instruments were very important since whoever sealed a document with it bound the Klan to the document: meaning there were never two of any of these floating around: one for each delegated klavern. This one, which is in exceptional condition and embosses perfectly is for: "ELDERTON, PA. KLAN NO. 59 KNIGHTS OF THE KU KLUX KLAN" This is exactly what it embosses in a circular hallmark with the well known klan MIOAK (Mystic Insignia Of A Klansmen) at center. The Mioak features four joined "K"s interlocked and back to back forming a box at center which houses what has become known as the Klan blood - tear by most modern klans (was actually designed to be a ying-yang symbol to connote balance and equilibrium as a circle would to sustain its integrity - Hence the name Ku Klux Klan: Greek = kuklos circle of brothers). This embosser with its high gloss black paint and gold trim is quite the presentation piece and measures approximately 6" long and 9 1/2" tall with handle up. It weighs in at a very impressive, for its size, 4 pounds and 7.5 ounces. The embosser works perfectly and leaves a perfect and very legible two-inch in diameter embossing. Absolutely fabulous and extremely rare piece of American and Klan history. Do not miss you chance to add this exquisite and very desirable piece to your collection.
