This is a little seen, seldom found extra large engraving of the patent published February 16, 1856. This great patent engraving is entitled " IMPROVED ORNAMENTAL CASTER", registered by
MESSRS.R. GLEASON and Son of Dorchester, Mass "
There follows detailed explanation of the changes and advantages of this caster. "The novelty consists in the combination of egg cups with the caster in such a manner as to increase the elegance of the whole design. Between the curves of the caster boxes there is a small platform, furnished, in its center, with a spindle. These are outlined on the engraving as a, egg cup, b, cavity, c and d are ornamental hoops for spoons." "They give the effect of pendants, so much admired by ornamental metallurgy of various kinds." The manufacturer produce this kind of ware and have facilities for magnificent specimens.
