Kit includes normal wearing parts for a quick and easy ALTERNATOR / CHARGING SYSTEM maintenance “tune-up”;
a) Carbon Brushes with soldered-on leads x 2
(Replaces BMW # 12 31 1 244 480 brush set) but also includes:
b) Voltage Regulator -- Transitorized, solid-state voltage regulator with 14.3 Volt trim set point. This is higher voltage than the original regulator. The high ouput amperage capacity is rated at 65 amps + . (The original BOSCH alternators have a maximum output of 17-22 amps, depending on model and year.) Enclosed in compliant nylon plastic case, which absorbs engine's harmonic vibrations

All CHARGING SYSTEMS require mechanical and electrical maintenance, as any other item on your motorcycle.
Carbon brushes and the shunt leads; The normal material loss of the carbon brush material needs to be renewed. Braided copper shunt leads can corrode and deteriorate, leading to incomplete amperage transfer to battery. Simple soldering is all that is required.
Benefit: Replacing the carbon brushes and leads will allow efficient battery amperage utilization.
Brush Compression Springs (optional - NOT included in this kit) do loose their tension after years of heat cycling.
Benefit: New-- replacement compression springs will maintain brush contact on the rotor slip ring.
