Short historical facts about the armor and weapon ofChingis'
Cavaliers The Chingis' success of world conquest was mostly and
fundamentally due to his mounted army with fully equipped gears and
his military tactics. Specifically the body armor and weapon have
been drawing interests from many researchers, scholars,
paleoanthropologist, and craftsmen for many years. The archaeology
findings show that the body armor was made of leather or any other
animal skin. Thus it was light to carry, easy to wear, and probably
long lasting. It also allows a rider greater mobility, which is
very crucial for a cavalier during the combat. With every victory,
everyone from the general to foot soldier was attaching more items
such as awards and war loots to themselves. As result, cavaliers
weren't so fast and quick because the load on horse was getting
heavier. Interestingly, Chingis knew that and had ordered that the
total weight of body armor must stay below 20kg (=45lb). Many other
military officials in Europe and Asia at the time saw an advantage
in armor and clothing design of the Mongol army and therefore they
started to duplicate and apply it to their soldiers. For example,
the soldiers of the Grand Prince of Novgorod, Alexander Nevsky and
Samurais in Japan were carrying the same dress design and armor.
However, the dress and weapon of Chingis' army were specifically
designed so that they can be put on in short time and carried
easily. They also meant to be lighter for horses and thus gave more
mobility to the rider. Clothing The Chingis's soldiers wore so
called deel [~dael]. It's a traditional long Mongolian dress. It
reaches usually just little above the knee, made mostly of fabrics.
Depending on purpose it can be made heavy, thick, and stuffed for
cold wintery season or thin and light for warm summery season. In
contrast to civilian deel, the ones of soldiers were wider, had
only one button positioned under the right armpit. Also both
armpits had a wide opening. On right and left side there were a
slit. It was so practical that soldiers used it as blanket or even
as mattress in the night time. BeltIt was made of leather and has
only one belt clasp which makes the tightening process in two ways.
It will hold everything a soldier need to: the sword, short and
long knife, water jug, and a bag for the dried meat. Foot wear The
traditional Mongolian foot wear is called mongol gutal. In general
it looks like a boot because of its long shaft. But a Mongolian
boot consists of 2 parts: boot itself (outer part) and felt sox
(inner part), which needs to be put on. Like western boot, the
Mongol gutal has been made of leather. But in contrast, its
slightly upturned toes were preventing the horse rider from getting
off the stirrup. Compared to a western boot, its shaft is very
wide, has no eyelet and no lace. The opening has been cut in a nice
curve. It can be made with fine ornaments depending on who is going
to wear. Such a Mongol gutal was standard item for everyone in
Chingis' army. When it comes to practical use, the Chingis' soldier
had always an idea: They used it as pillow. Helmets The commanding
officers such as generals or high ranking bodyguards were wearing a
helmet made of steel. Any other ones were wearing one made of
leather. Body armor At the beginning it was made of leather, which
was covering only the vital part of body: The whole chest to the
hips. Shoulders, elbows, knees, and back of hands were covered only
with small piece of steel plate. In the course of time it had been
improved and was replaced by steel armor. Even though it was still
as light as one made of leather, but more robust and stronger,
which was a great advancement in military history. Swords A mongol
sword was curved slightly from the middle to the tip and was more
for slashing instead of stabbing someone. The sword length was
adjusted by measuring form finger tip to the shoulder tip of the
carrying soldier. There is a band attached to the hilt. So the
soldier wouldn't loose it in combat. First, the hilt itself was
made of wood. Then it was wrapped with leather. Then again, there
was another layer around it to prevent from getting water or
crease: either snake skin, or salmon skin, or any type of intestine
of horse, camel, or bull. Short Knife Besides sword, it was one of
the standard weapons carried by cavaliers, but hidden somewhere on
body. Its length was little longer than 10cm (=1inch) and the hilt
was made of animal horn. Long Knife It was also one of the standard
weapons besides sword. Its length was little longer than 20cm
(=2inch) and wider than short knife. Its hilt was also made of
animal horn. But compared to short knife, the tip of the horn was
left on hilt deliberately. In that way, the soldiers could use the
both ends as weapon. ShieldThe shield was made mostly of neck part
of leather. It was very light. Bow is NOT included ! Arrows is NOT
included!Tree twigs have been used to make the arrow shafts. Its
diameter ranges differently depending on the archer's physiology.
But thumb rule is that it will be little bigger than the thumb of
the archer. The arrowhead was made of steel and shaped and designed
differently depending on its function such as to simply make a loud
sound, pierce through body armor in order to kill, or to burn,
poison, and bleed the targets. Custom RequestsDue to the fact that

Please email to inquire with seller. Pricing There is a different
pricing for reproducing and duplicating the armors and weapons. If
we do it by the old means as Chingis' people made back then, it
will cost $5750. In that way it will look more genuine and requires
extended time from us. But by using modern technology and tools, it
requires less time to reproduce, which keeps the cost down .
Nevertheless, either way it will look as exact and same as one
found in the archaeological excavations. Because we take pride and
time in our work, every single detail will look genuine. With bare
eyes, you can't distinguish between forged one and genuine one.Item
