Excellent  thriller taken from Anya Seton's gothic novel, "Dragonwyck". A story set in the 1940's of a naive but ambitious farm-girl from Connecticut who goes to live with her mother's distant relative; Nichols Van Ryn in the Hudson Valley only to find strangness between him and his wife and a child that is shut out of their lives. Nicholas has come to hate his wife because she has been unable to give him a son; their only child is a daughter he doesn't care for. Miranda Wells (Gene Tierney) comes to live at their estate and work as an au pair girl; Nicholas becomes infatuated with her and eventually poisons his wife so they can marry. However, while Miranda gives birth to a son, the boy is sickly and does not live out the week. Nicholas begins to slip into insanity, moving to the attic tower rooms of his mansion and is growing stranger and more sinister each time anyone sees him.

What does Nicholas do in the dark tower? The distraught maid, Peggy (Tandy) is worried about Miranda's safety and seeks the counsel of the local doctor, Dr. Jeff Turner (Jeff Langan); Dr. Turner has loved Miranda from afar since first meeting her and he eventually discovers that Nicholas killed his first wife to be with Miranda and he knows also that she will probably be next on the list. Excellent movie, Great cast.
