What's on this DVD Set?

Motion pictures were first seen by the general public in 1894, when Thomas Edison introduced the Kinetoscope, a device for individually looking at film through a viewer.  Over the next three years, Edison manufactured almost 1,000 Kinetoscopes and produced some 250 films to show in them.  A million people worldwide first saw motion pictures through these devices.

This three DVD set contains a huge collection of 358 Edison Kinetoscope film clips and films over 80 to 110 years old!  Some of the very early clips were produced at the Edison Labs and at Edison's Black Maria Studio.  The film clips cover a range of categories like drama, comedy, magic acts, dancing, current events of the time, boxing, animal acts, parades, historical sites, places of interest, tourist attractions, notables and presidential footage along with a whole host of other interesting films.  These early film clips offer a tremendous wealth of historical film footage.  Each film is titled and ranges from seconds to several minutes in length, with the combined viewing time for all the films at 748 minutes.  All films are in black and white as originally produced and have no sound.

Some of the people, places and things you will see during that era are the Statue of Liberty, Skyscrapers of New York,  Ellis Island, Fisherman's Wharf, Herald Square, the American Falls (Niagara), Minehaha Falls, Passaic Falls, Lower Falls, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park, Madison and State Streets, the Eiffel Tower, The Champs Elysees, Market Street in San Francisco in 1905,  Market Street in San Francisco after the Great Earthquake of 1906, some of America's and Canada's finest like the New York Police Department,  the Buffalo Police on Parade, the Buffalo Fire Department in Action, the Montreal Fire Department on Sled Running Fire Trucks, Roosevelt's Rough Riders, Admiral Dewey landing at Gibraltar, Galveston flood footage, President McKinley's Inauguration and Funeral Cortege and clips of the Pan American Exposition!.

And, you don't want to miss the clips on boxing, like Men Boxing, The Leonard-Cushing Fight, Cats Boxing,  the Gordon Sisters Boxing (no pulled punches here!!) and Laura Comstock's Punching Bag Dog (Sorry, no boxing kangaroos). Or how about Carmencita dancing, Indians dancing, Japanese dancing and the Bowery Waltz.  Just scan the list of films below to see the complete picture!!!
