Taped in January 1997 at the Callum Theatre in the Palm Desert Resort hotel in Palm Springs, CA., includes sensational renditions of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," "Anything Goes," "I Get A Kick Out Of You," "As If We Never Said Goodbye," "Sleepy Man," "I Dreamed A Dream," "Heat Wave," and more... RARE BONUS: Clips of ANYTHING GOES from a bootleg with tons of close-ups! Bootlegged footage from 1988 Lincoln Center revival of ANYTHING GOES. This is NOT from the poor quality tape that has been circulating for years, but rather is completely different, newly surfaced footage! Very well filmed, with lots of great close ups, but some generational loss. Not the complete show, but about 40 minutes of musical highlights. North Shore Music Theatre; Beverly, Massachusetts
Kristen Chenoweth (Christine), Ron Baker, Marc Kudisch (Phillipe)

The Phantom of the Opera
-
First Preview Performance (Broadway, January 9, 1988) RARE! Filmed on the first night of previews! Unfortunately, much generational loss—the picture is not crisp at all, and some of the coloring is off—but the audio is great, and there are a lot of nice zooms. The picture is poor enough quality that it is probably a video that only die-hard fans would enjoy. Phantom: Michael Crawford Christine: Sarah Brightman Raoul: Steve Barton

-    Broadway, 10/8/88 (Michael's Last Night)
Michael Crawford (The Phantom), Patti Cohenour (Christine), Steve Barton (Raoul), etc.

-    (Los Angeles, 1989 or 1991) Quality is actually OK for the age and equipment. This version is, I believe, the best quality of the Phantom videos this age…it lacks the extreme close-up of newer videos, but is surprisingly clear. Unfortunately, the camera gets shaky in quite a few places. Begins with Raoul singing, "Will you still play?..." Phantom: Michael Crawford Christine: Dale Kristien Raoul: Steve Barton

-    Los Angeles Production, 9/28/93 with: Davis Gaines and Dale Kristen. Pro-Shot.

-       10/29/05 - Broadway Revival - Patti LuPone, Michael Cerveris, Donna Lynne Champlin, Manoel Felciano, Alexander Gemignani, John Arbo, Diana Dimarzio, Benjamin Magnuson, Lauren Molina, Mark Jacoby.  I don't know if this surfaced recently or is just rare, but it's an AMAZING capture of the show!  A slight cover up towards the beginning and 1 more that lasts about 20 seconds after that, but otherwise perfect!  The taper follows the action very well, and there are some STUNNING closeups.  (In particular one on Patti with a flashlight during the scene in the bakehouse, and her facial reaction makes the whole video worthwile for me). Different focus on certain characters and action than the other videos. Patti also makes a very subtle move this night during the final bakehouse scene that I haven't noticed in any other performance... The disc has the Playbill, and NY1 opening night coverage, a review and an interview with Patti LuPone and Michael Cerveris. This is a must-have!

Xanadu

-    11/11/07 - Broadway - Cheyenne Jackson, Kerry Butler, Tony Roberts, Jackie Hoffman, Mary Testa, Ryan Watkinson (u/s for Curtis Holbrook), Anika Larsen, Kenita Miller. A very 'unique' perspective, this is filmed from the orchestra section, 15 feet from the stage. You're between heads, and the camera is focused on the right half of the stage most of the time. About 20% of the show is covered up. But you do get some excellent footage of the cast, and Mary Testa does a great ad-lib about the writers and stagehands strike. The flming gets much better from "Suspended in Time" onward. If you like the show, or you're a FANADU you definitely should check this one out.

-    2/19/08 - Broadway - Patti Murin (Clio/Kira u/s), Cheyenne Jackson (Sonny), Tony Roberts (Danny), Curtis Holbrook (Thalia), Kate Loprest (Euterpe u/s), Kenita Miller (Erato), Mary Testa (Melpomene), Jackie Hoffman (Calliope), Andre Ward (Terpsicore).
