First, let me say, I am extremely glad I was able to get these, no matter what it says below. I just want to give people a realistic expecation of what they can expect when they get this. If you're truly a fan of the show, or nostalgic, you should easily be able to look past anything in the review below.
The video quality is not great, but if you're expecting a lot homemade from 20-30+ year old VHS conversions, you should stop being so optimistic. They're watchable, especially if you do what I did, which is clean them up a bit digitally. I reencoded them with Handbrake and applied a medium denoise and 15 deblock filter on them to soften up the digital artifacting that was caused by putting 6+ hours of content per disc, as well as some of the VHS artifacting and shakiness. The result is a softer, fuzzier picture, but less distracting than some of the heavy artifacting on the DVD.
I would rate the audio quality as pretty good. For such an old conversion to VHS, I would say the 10/10 audio rating stands, but just remember, this isn't Dolby Digital surround. It's an old VHS conversion. The audio is more than listenable, it's actually quite decent.
Don't expect amazing, carefully designed menus. These are DVD recorder menus, and thus very basic. You can skip around a bit, but it's not highly sophisticated. If you want nice menus, just do what I'm doing. Reencode them and make your own nice little presentation that you can be proud of, if you really care. I've made an attractive background in photoshop and used DVDStyler to make nice menus.
The artwork on the CD's are simple and to the point. It's definitely good enough, and worlds better than getting a plain disc with sharpie. That said, I plan to print my own discs for myself using my Canon Pixma, when I finish my conversion/restoration process. I will also create some cover art and put them into actual DVD cases. I suggest you do the same if you wish to stick on your shelf and display to the world. If you don't care, then this won't matter.
The episodes are out of order. I haven't gone through them all yet, but so far, Disc 1 contains all of season 7 and some of season 4 (including a partial episode, which may exist on another disc). Disc 2 contains most of season 1, including a partial episode, which is continued on disc 3. I haven't gone beyond that, but just know that the episodes aren't in order, so if you want to watch in order, you'll have to do some sleuthing, and look up the episode order online. I recomment SchuminWeb.
Overall, its perfectly servicable for what it is, and you'll be glad to have them if you're a fan, because it doesn't look like TVOntario is going to be releasing them any time soon.
